Self Care Essential #3 Trauma
So, what has happened to you?
Trauma is those labels we often pin to ourselves that we have no control of, but I like to think of it as a testimonial to God’s grace. Trauma is a deeply distressing or disturbing experience; trauma can be broken down as acute, chronic and complex trauma. Acute trauma results from a single incident
Chronic trauma is repeated and prolonged such as domestic violence or abuse. Complex trauma is exposure to varied and multiple traumatic events, often of an invasive, interpersonal nature. Chileeeeeee all treeeeeee of them I have experienced. So, what has happened to you? How is it currently affecting you? Trauma isn't something we choose, it is something that happens. Understanding how you are triggered will help you cope with what has happened. What has happened to you doesn't define you but it makes you who you are! My labels: Single parent household, Toxic relationships, Sexual abuse & harassment, Poverty, Emotional, mental, physical and spiritual instability, Homelessness, Family cycle of drugs/alcohol abuse and Jail birds & dealer. Your trigger will show up and the best thing you can do is cope with it by using one tool I like to call ‘I Statements’. I believe statements such as I can, I believe, I will, I know, I feel, I want, I need are essential. It allows you to understand, process and reflect on what has happened or what is happening. Understanding what has happened to you and ways to cope, allows you to be present in the NOW. You deserve to heal, allow this blog to serve as courage you do it!
