Expectations

So I say expect what you desire, believe, imagine because it’s what gives you assurance on who you were, are and becoming.

When I was thinking what I wanted to reflect on this week, that word expectation kept coming up. So let’s unpack it. It’s odd to me that we are taught to not expect nowadays in relationships, career aspirations, human interaction and the list can go on but me I have a hard time not expecting. The truth is all our lives when we are hungry, we expect to eat. When we are thirsty, we expect to drink. When we are sad, we expect to feel unlike ourselves. When we are angry, we expect to feel annoyed. When you believe in God, you expect grace. It's just expectations. So why when we get into relationships with a partner, coworker, family member or friend we are taught to dim our expectations because people will let you down. That’s true, however why aren’t we taught the flip side when expectations are met. Why don’t we push the narrative that you can expect, but make sure you’re communicating those expectations, make sure you understand those expectations, make sure those expectations work for you and the other person. You feel me? Of course no one is going to be perfect but why can’t we expect good. Essentially that’s what expectations come down to; Doing good. I’m speaking very generalized but I believe expectations shouldn’t just be a problem, but a solution to satisfaction. Everyone at the end of the day wants hope, love, joy and happiness so why make it more complex because we aren’t in the place to meet it. How about we choose to expect and when it’s not met we leave it up to the person to decide. No matter the decision we have the opportunity for one another to be pleased but at the end of the day we are not going to NOT expect it. So I say expect what you desire, believe, imagine because it’s what gives you assurance on who you were, are and becoming. I’m just going to be expecting because I deserve and I earn that.
